University of Illinois Agricultural Economist Robert Thompson

Categories: Farm Bill

Last week (May 10), University of Illinois Agricultural Economist Robert Thompson appeared on the Focus 580 Radio Program with David Inge, a weekday radio program produced by WILL AM 580 Public Radio here in Champaign, IL.

In a wide ranging conversation, Dr. Thompson touched on a variety of important farm policy topics and specifically addressed issues associated with the 2007 Farm Bill.

The conversation highlighted the Bush Administration’s Farm Bill proposal, and the relatively high price of some program crops and farm income “safety net” provisions such as revenue insurance.

The program also addressed issues associated with sustainability and agricultural productivity; water issues; population growth; alternative energy research funding; specialty crops and childhood obesity.

Also noted was the wide-ranging and diverse group of organizations who are playing a role in the 2007 Farm Bill debate.
